NBFCs - Navigating the pandemic

Summary

The Covid-19 pandemic landed the second punch on non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), including housing finance companies. The first one was the credit event in September 2018 that led to funding challenges. On their part, NBFCs have been navigating the turmoil using innovative strategies, but their growth in assets under management (AUM) remains impacted.

Funding amidst elevated asset quality concerns continued to remain a challenge as the pandemic set in. To their credit, most NBFCs strove to rise above these risks by improving liquidity buffers and focusing on asset quality at the cost of growth.

To be sure, the government and regulators have taken steps to provide relief, and some green shoots have started appearing but things aren’t back to pre-pandemic levels yet.

Against this backdrop, CRISIL Ratings invites you to its virtual seminar titled 'NBFCs - Navigating the Pandemic', providing business leaders, issuers, investors, policymakers and other market participants a platform to deliberate on the nuances of the sector.

The event will have presentations by CRISIL's experts, followed by panel discussions involving industry leaders.

The presentations will cover aspects such as:

  • Growth assessment and changing composition of the portfolio mix of NBFCs
  • Liquidity position for NBFCs and how they are expected to manage liquidity profiles going forward
  • Asset quality across segments: how much of their book is susceptible to slippage and which segments would face the maximum pressure build-up
  • Funding and profitability trends for NBFCs
  • Way forward for NBFCs - opportunities and challenges
