CRISIL Ratings webinar on the retail sector: Aisle and hearty

Summary

India's organised retail sector rebounded 22% last fiscal on a low base created by the 18% decline in fiscal 2021. The recovery was impacted by the second and third waves of the pandemic in the first and the fourth quarters, respectively. With the pandemic now receding, outlook looks healthy for the sector supported by broad-based economic growth and consumption.

E-retail continues to outpace traditional stores owing to advantages such as convenience and price competitiveness. Taking cue from this trend, brick and mortar (B&M) players are also increasing their omni-channel capabilities to broaden the customer base and enhance their direct-to-customer offerings.

E-retail is also expected to get a fillip from the government's Open Network for Digital Commerce initiative. Players are also seen stepping up capex towards store additions and shoring up digital platforms. However, surging inflation threatens to play spoilsport, which can impact not just demand for discretionary goods such as consumer durables and apparels, but also operating margins of retailers.

In this context, CRISIL is hosting a webinar on the organised retail sector titled, 'Aisle and hearty', where our experts will share their views on:

  • Structural growth drivers for organised retail and revenue outlook over the medium term
  • Outlook for B&M retail (food and grocery, apparels and consumer durables) and e-retail
  • Profitability expectations and its drivers
  • Store expansions and funding mix
  • Credit outlook

The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A.
