CRISIL Infrastructure Advisory webinar on India's gas economy: the LNG gusher

Summary

In line with strong thrust on clean energy, the Government of India (GoI) is targeting to increase the share of natural gas in the primary energy basket to 15% over the next few years from about 6% at present.

Demand for gas is set to get a fillip from the large-scale award of city gas distribution licenses over the past 12-18 months. Then there are efforts to increase LNG off-take by the power and fertiliser sectors, which are among the largest potential consumers of natural gas.

On the supply side, despite number of steps taken to increase domestic gas production, it continues to lag demand for natural gas.

This implies higher reliance on liquefied natural gas (LNG), which has been contributing about half of the total gas consumption in recent years. However, LNG affordability constraint across end use sectors could cap consumption.

Therefore, suitable measures need to be implemented to boost gas/ LNG consumption across the country.

In this context, we invite you to a web conference where experts from CRISIL Infrastructure Advisory will address the following questions:

  • How pricing freedom for gas production could impact gas market development in India?
  • What pricing trend is likely to characterise availability of LNG in India over short to medium term?
  • How is the transmission pipeline infrastructure expected to impact potential gas consumption?
  • What role could gas play in improving the prospects for power sector in India?
  • How can new avenues such as SSLNG and LNG in transportation be made to emerge as significant demand centres?

This would be followed by a panel discussion with industry experts and a Q&A session.
