Urban Infrastructure

With approximately 28 per cent of our population residing in India's urban centres, this engine of growth contributes to more than 50 per cent of India's GDP. To sustain economic growth and uplift India's large population out of poverty, however, there is urgent requirement for improving India's urban infrastructure services to ensure that people do not have to spend a significant portion of their time and costs coping with a substandard service. With limited public finances and capacity, the government's role is now increasingly seen to be that of a policy maker and regulator while the private sector participation brings in efficiencies in service delivery and much-needed capital for new project development.

CRISIL has closely been working with government departments, the Planning Commission, donor-funded institutions and the private sector on a large number of projects to develop and institutionalise innovative and practical solutions in the areas of municipal finance, city development planning, urban finance frameworks, urban reforms, and PPP.
