The Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) is one of eight national missions launched by the Government of India as part of India's action plan on climate change. The mission is intended to promote ecologically sustainable growth, while addressing India's energy security challenge. Its immediate focus will be to promote the use of renewable sources of energy, and facilitate increased penetration of solar technology. The mission envisages providing capital and interest rate subsidies to make solar off-grid projects commercially viable and sustainable.
To scale up the programme, increase participation of capable entities, and reduce transaction time, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has envisaged allowing channel partners to submit project proposals to MNRE directly. To ensure that only capable channel partners are allowed to participate, the mission, however, proposes that such entities get an accreditation from reputed rating agencies for submission of projects directly to MNRE.
