Kochi is a major city and sea port located in the Ernakulam district of Kerala state. Kochi is the commercial capital of Kerala and has strong drivers to foster business growth, which, in turn, are linked to increased real estate activity. It is one of the most advanced cities in India in terms of literacy, education and health, and is also one of the top tourist destinations in India. Kochi has an area of around 3068 square kilometres (sq km), with almost 3.10 million inhabitants as per the 2001 census. The city’s population density is 1012 per sq km, as against 819 per sq km for Kerala, and 324 per sq km for India. The city is located 220 kilometres north of the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram, and about 180 kilometres south of Kozhikode.
