Coimbatore is a famous tourist attraction as it is close to the hill stations of Udhagamandalam (Ooty), Coonoor and Valparai. The city also serves as an entry and exit point to neighbouring Kerala. Coimbatore is also well-connected to Chennai (TN), Bangalore (Karnataka) and Kochi (Kerala). Coimbatore is the third-largest city by area in TN, and is located around 500 kilometres southwest of Chennai. Coimbatore has an area of around 7,469 square kilometres (sq km), with almost 4.22 million inhabitants as per the 2001 census.
