CRISIL Ratings webinar - Organised dairies: The road ahead

Summary

India is the largest producer and consumer of milk. Its dairy sector accounts for a fifth of its farmers' income by value, and is dominated by unorganised players.

But organised players are fast catching up, with revenues growing at a compound annual growth rate of ~15% between fiscals 2013 and 2018, compared with the sector’s growth of ~12%.

That's drawing more capital, including private equity, and new entrants.

Organised dairies are also diversifying. For example, large cooperative dairies are expanding beyond their traditional strongholds, while private ones are sharpening focus on value-added products and increasing market reach.

However, the sector currently faces some challenges such as low international prices for milk powder, inventory accumulation, and higher working capital borrowings.

Credit quality has, however, remained largely stable.

In this context, CRISIL Ratings invites you to a webinar where we will discuss the following:

  • Demand prospects for dairy products and supply dynamics
  • Implication of current phase of lower global milk powder prices
  • Factors driving interest of new entrants and private equity players
  • Outlook on the credit profiles of players

The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with experts from the industry, and a Q&A session.
