Waste Management

Rural women in Assam

Mumbai

1000 households were impacted through door to door campaigns, clean up drives, shop to shop awareness drives; 
CRISIL employees also restored the beach front, cleaning more than 5000 kilos of garbage at Dadar Chowpatty; more than 30 kilos of waste at Powai Lake.

Frequent littering in public places and limited waste management infrastructure in Kanhai community adopted to drive behavioral change of the community towards healthy living practices, waste management and segregation at source. 80% water logging problem in the community were addressed as a result of constant awareness and advocacy. Residents have stopped littering in the public areas, thus preventing water logging. Approximately 87,000 community members benefited from the project within a year.

Pune

Mula Road, a disadvantaged community in Pune consisting of 600 families, faced several challenges of sanitation and hygiene. CRISIL RE addressed the community’s needs for waste management, enabling:
(a) Construction of 5 compost pits 
(b) Regular cleanliness drives 
(c) Increased awareness and participation in waste segregation and management 
(d) Reduction in littering in the slum and surrounding areas

1000+ kgs of waste collected though coastal clean-ups.

To arrest hazards of garbage flowing into water bodies, CRISIL has conducted clean-up drives at Elliot's Beach (end-point of the Marina Beach shore), which sees heavy footfalls. Employee volunteers have also cleaned up the connecting beach stretch, Thirivanmiyur.

Mudichur Lake, one of the largest in Chennai, bore the brunt of encroachment resulting in massive floods in 2015. Consequently, for the past two years, CRISIL RE has been restoring the lake through clean-up drives around the water body. 

Environment Conservation

POTENTIAL TO OFFSET MORE THAN 3900 MTCO2e over the next 15 years

 

In 2018, CRISIL undertook a geo-tagging & carbon sequestration exercise with Center for Environmental Conservation & Education (CERE) to analyse the impact of more than 16000 trees planted across India. The study has shown that trees planted have the potential to offset 3921.12 metric tonnes (MT) of carbon dioxide over the next 15 years, equivalent to the carbon footprint of 2300 humans.

Chattusrunghi Hills - 1250 trees on Chatusrunghi Hills, which are being maintained by CRISIL for 3 years.CRISIL has also helped in drip irrigation set up, trench measurement, and grass cutting.

Khadakwasla - The Khadakwasla lake (a reservoir), created from one of the largest and oldest dams of the same name, is the main source of water for Pune and its suburbs. CRISIL RE has planted 1000 trees to prevent soil erosion around the area, and beautify the periphery of the dam.

Aravali Biodiversity Park - 3000 trees maintained by CRISIL for three years. CRISIL has also helped in drip irrigation set up, sapling transplantation, leaf mould preparation and tagging trees.

Rabale - To increase green cover in a designated forest land at Rabale MIDC (Navi Mumbai), CRISIL RE planted 3000 trees in the area
