CRISIL downgrades rating on DSP Low Duration Fund to 'CRISIL A+mfs'; Continues on 'Watch Negative'

Rating Action
DSP Low Duration Fund  CRISIL A+mfs (Downgraded from 'CRISIL AAmfs'; Continues on 'Rating Watch with Negative Implications')
1 crore = 10 million
Refer to annexure for Details of Instruments & Bank Facilities
Detailed Rationale

CRISIL has downgraded its rating on DSP Low Duration Fund (DLDF) scheme of DSP Mutual Fund (DMF) managed by DSP Investment Managers Private Limited (DIMPL) to 'CRISIL A+mfs' from 'CRISIL AAmfs'; the rating continues to be on 'Rating Watch with Negative Implications'.

The rating downgrade reflects CRISIL's opinion that the credit quality of the scheme's portfolio, as reflected by its credit score, has now become inconsistent with previous rating on account of further significant weakening in credit risk profile of one underlying security which constituted ~2% of assets under management (AUM) of the fund as of May 31, 2019. With respect to the specific security, it is not reflected in the portfolio factsheet as on date since DIMPL has written down the value of the security by 100% in the books of accounts of DLDF as on June 4, 2019. CRISIL notes that the underlying security has scheduled maturity on June 25, 2019.

CRISIL will continue to monitor the scheme with respect to stability in AUM, potential redemption pressure and track record of maintaining credit quality of the underlying securities. Hence, the rating continues on Watch Negative. CRISIL will analyse the scheme's portfolio regularly and take appropriate rating action, if warranted.

The rating indicates CRISIL's opinion on the credit quality of the debt securities that the fund holds. The rating does not indicate the AMC's willingness, or ability, to make timely payments to the fund's investors. The rating is also not an opinion on the fund's net asset value (NAV). The NAV may vary with developments in the market.

Key Rating Drivers & Detailed Description
CRISIL's assessment of a rated fund's credit quality is based on the creditworthiness of the fund's portfolio. CRISIL has developed a credit quality matrix to assess the aggregate credit quality of a fund's underlying portfolio. The matrix is a set of credit factors and credit scores derived scientifically from the default and transition rates of CRISIL's long-term ratings. The credit factors reflect the expected default behaviour of the respective securities in the portfolio, and the expected deterioration in their credit quality. The lower the credit factor for each security, the higher would be its inherent credit quality. The credit factors are applied to the proportion of securities held in each rating level to arrive at the credit score for the portfolio. The rating on the fund is assigned on the basis of the fund's total credit score. A rated fund needs to maintain, at all times, a credit score consistent with its assigned rating.

Schemes with 'A+mfs' rating are considered to have adequate degree of safety regarding timely receipt of payments from the investments that they have made.
