CRISIL Ratings webinar on fertilisers: Subsidy relief, reforms fillip

Summary

In a country where more than half the workforce is employed in agriculture and allied activities, it isn't surprising that demand for fertilisers is seen as a barometer of farm growth. The fertiliser industry, critical to sustaining and increasing food production, is regulated to a large extent by the central government. For fertiliser makers, this means disproportionate dependence on subsidy pay-outs from the government.

The recent announcement of additional subsidy under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Package 3.0 included in the revised budget estimate for the current fiscal will clear off most of the arrears of fertiliser companies.

But is this a step towards major policy change or reform?

Could more such moves be in the offing?

To discuss, CRISIL is organising a webinar, where its experts will present their views on:

  • Impending policy changes or reforms and the likely impact on the sector dynamics
  • Impact of the clearing of subsidy arrears on the credit profiles of players and credit outlook
  • Profitability outlook for both urea and complex fertiliser segments
  • Impact of higher raw material prices on the subsidy arrears in fiscal 2022
  • Demand outlook, especially on the sustenance of high demand growth

The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion with experts from the industry and a Q&A session.
