CRISIL Webinar on EV sector: Towards Green Mobility

India has significant pollution-related challenges as well, being home to 9 of 10 most polluted cities worldwide along with 10-15% pollution in India emanating from road transport.

Hence electric vehicles along with green power to charge them is critical for the country's clean-energy transition.

On its part, the government has announced its ambitious target of EV30@2030 - 30% of newly registered private cars, 40% of buses, 70% of commercial cars, and 80% of 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers is targeted to be electric by 2030.

Towards this, there have been initiatives such as subsidies under FAME-II, the Production-Linked Incentive schemes for advanced chemistry cell, and for the auto and auto-components sector.

While this has helped two- and three-wheeler EVs attain parity with their internal combustion engine (ICE) counterparts in terms of total cost of ownership, the passenger EV segment is yet to reach there and faces stiff competition from ICE and compressed natural gas-driven vehicles.

Other speed-breakers abound as well: even in the two-wheeler EV-segment, the reduction in the subsidy per vehicles have moderated growth this fiscal.

While there are innovations happening in battery that reduce the cost and improve economics, a wide range of charging infrastructure also needs to be in place to reduce range anxiety among customers.

In this milieu, CRISIL is hosting a webinar titled, 'Towards green mobility', where our experts will share their views on:

  • Global overview of electric vehicles penetration and India story so far
  • Outlook on EV penetration in India across segments (2W, PV, bus etc.)
  • Outlook on ramp up in charging infrastructure
  • Battery technologies and outlook on costs
  • Path to profitability and credit outlook for electric vehicle players
