Detailed Rationale

CRISIL has withdrawn its 'CRISIL AA+/Stable' rating on the Rs 900 crore Basel III-compliant Tier-I bonds of State Bank of Travancore (SBT), as the instrument has been eliminated on the bank's merger with State Bank of India (SBI; 'CRISIL AAA/CRISIL AA+/FAAA/Stable/CRISIL A1+'). CRISIL has also withdrawn its ratings on the other debt instruments of SBT as all the instruments have been transferred to SBI. The rating action follows completion of the merger of SBI and its five associate banks, which included SBT. As per the notification issued by Government of India on February 22, 2017, the merger is effective from April 1, 2017.

SBI's rating rationale reflecting this event is appended.

About the Bank

Set up in 1945 as Travancore Bank Ltd, SBT was made an associate bank of SBI in January 1960 under the SBI (Subsidiary Banks) Act, 1959. The bank had advances and deposits of Rs.52,506 crore and Rs.1,14,323 crore, respectively, as on March 31, 2017.
